Since it was the spare of the moment and that I was running out of time, I wasn't able to go back and do another shoot. Because the hotel itself was so dark inside, I struggled a lot with taking photographs with lack of natural light and tried my best avoiding tacky built-in flash.

. If I could go back, I would most definitely bring some sort of lighting

equipment with me and stay a little longer, in hopes to get some interesting snaps.

However, i'm happy with the photographs I got, and because this project was so spare of the moment and it was by chance I found it.

I wanted it to be portrayed that way in my pictures.

I decided to chose a project I most enjoyed and it was by chance that I found this place on my travels through the countryside of Ireland. After a long day of driving I touched lucky

finding this place. By now i'd gotten used to finding abandoned buildings dotted around, but I didn't expect

i'd find a hotel.

The Clogga Bay Hotel is a 12 bed en-suite hotel with large function room, restaurant and bar.

An ancillary 3 bedroom family residence forms part of the property.

The hotel has direct private access to the beautiful Clogga Strand beach. Only 3 miles South of Arklow it is very accessible from the N11. This 11,000 sq ft premises would lend itself to many possible uses including B&B, Hostel, Residential Care Unit, Function venue, private residence etc.

Here is some ground work I did after I had been inside and after I viewed my images,

I was quite shocked that a once lovely resort had been

forgotten and left to rot.

Test Shoot

I took the day to do a few test shoots to work with my lighting and camera with an abandoned house down the road from my mother's house.

When photographing, I rely a lot on natural lighting. Though at times, it can prove to be difficult to rely on natural light, I prefer it.

In the haste of trying something new than I had first intended, I decided that I didn't need to take photographs that are personal in content.

The entire journey through the Irish countrysides

is personal enough for me.

Whilst travelling I found different

abandoned houses or unknown buildings left behind.

In a whole, it's a completely different feeling exploring something that has once been occupied and has been left behind, than to places that haven't been finished.

I later found out a lot of places that I explored were affected by the economy meltdown, a lot of these houses or businesses were closed down because of the fall in the economy.

A few of my explorations can lead onto my final project for this degree, but for this project I was open to three separate ideas.

When I went to Ireland for my projects, I attempted to do what I initially set out to do. I started travelling to different

locations around Southern Ireland, Wexford. I found a few 'ghost' houses in the town called Hollyforth.

Though I initially wanted and tried to do this project on ghost houses.

I found the dangers of it being repetitive and un-personal to me actually damaged what I wanted to do.

In truth, I felt bored when I was photographing. Though I think this would have made an interesting project. What I got in the end wasn't what I wanted.

I decided to try something else.
